Update: registration now open.
Registration is now open for the 2011 Consumer Expenditure Survey (CE) Microdata Users’ Workshop, which will be held July 27-29 in Washington, DC. There is no fee to register for the workshop; the only requirement is to complete and submit a brief registration form (http://www.bls.gov/cex/csxworkreg2011.pdf).
Although the formal program is still being planned, we already have some exciting presentations lined up. In addition to a brand new session on use of the recently released paradata (that is, information about the data collection process, such as methods of contact used and length of interviews), we will have several sessions targeted to new and novice users of the data, including a presentation delivered by a researcher whose first “hands on” experience with CE microdata just took place (late March 2011). We are also planning a presentation by editors from the Monthly Labor Review, a widely-read, peer-reviewed journal featuring works by economists, statisticians, sociologists, and others. This presentation will describe the publication process and provide tips on how to get your article published there. Note that this session will also be of interest to experienced CE data users, as will several sessions that address more technical topics in using the CE microdata.
To learn more about the workshop, please see our website (http://www.bls.gov/cex/csxannualworkshop.htm). There, you will find updated information about the upcoming workshop, as well as a new archives page to see what has happened in past workshops (http://www.bls.gov/cex/ce_workshop_archive.htm). Also, a new report has just been published in the April 2011 edition of the Monthly Labor Review that provides detailed information about the proceedings of the 2010 workshop.
If you have any questions about the workshop, please send an e-mail to CE_WORKSHOP_2011@bls.gov. You may also leave a message at (202) 691-6900.
