2018 SGE Annual Conference

The Society of Government Economists 2018 Annual Conference

Friday, April 20, 2018, 8:30am-4:30pm

Janet Norwood Conference and Training Center

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

2 Massachusetts Ave, NE, Washington, DC

Keynote Speaker: Bruce D. Meyer, McCormick Foundation Professor at the University of Chicago’s Harris School of Public Policy Studies

Meyer studies poverty and inequality, tax policy, the accuracy of household surveys, and government safety net programs such as unemployment insurance, workers’ compensation, food stamps, and Medicaid.   With the goal of increasing rigorous research and program evaluation in government while protecting privacy, he worked to establish the Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking, on which he also served.  Their recently released report has already spurred pending legislation to expand the use of evidence in government, make more government data available for policy-making and enhance privacy protections.

The Society of Government Economists Annual Conference includes papers and sessions on topics that touch on or impact government programs or public policy at local, national and international levels, topics related to improvements in government surveys, data, and measures, and research on microeconomic and macroeconomic trends and issues that inform policy makers. SGE supports research and networking opportunities for government economists and those who are interested in public policy economics. Submissions were considered on a rolling basis between February 20 and March 25 by a subcommittee of the SGE Board of Directors. See the program here.
