President’s Message
Summer is behind us (well, maybe not the weather) and SGE is moving ahead with a number of great activities for this Fall. Be sure to join us at our Luncheon Series, co-hosted with the National Economists Club, every month. This month's speaker is Michael Hoffman from the General Accountability Office.
SGE is proud to extend a Call for Papers for the 2008 SGE Annual Conference. This year's theme is Health, Aging, and Future Policy Options. The conference will be held at the Bureau of Labor Statistics in Washington, DC on Monday, June 2, 2008. We are looking for both single paper and full session proposals as well as volunteers who would like to help coordinate conference events.
We are also excited to kick off the SGE Monthly Happy Hour series. We begin the fun this month on Thursday, October 18 at the Gordon Biersch Brewery Restaurant at 900 F Street, NW (between the Gallery Place and Metro Center Metro stops). We begin at 5:30pm and go to about 7:30pm, so we hope you can make it.
Also, don't forget the SGE cocktail party and eight sessions SGE will be hosting at this year's AEA meetings in New Orleans. We are extremely proud to announce that Peter Orszag, Director of the Congressional Budget Office, will give this year's Distinguished Lecture at the AEA meetings. So please join us on Saturday, January 5 at 2:30pm to interact with Dr. Orzsag.
SGE is also sponsoring sessions at the 2008 Annual Conference of the Western Economics Association in Hawaii. See the announcement for more information.
We hope you will be able to join us at these many events and get involved as an SGE member.
See you soon at an SGE event!
Jonathan Schwabish
SGE President
