President's Message
January 2008

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year! I hope everyone had a great year and are getting those New Years resolutions in order.

SGE is setting it's own goals for 2008. Our annual conference will be held this June; the monthly luncheon schedule promises to bring in some great speakers; and a new round of Call for Papers for next year's AEA meetings.

In January, please join us at the AEA meetings where we are sponsoring eight sessions during the weekend, including the Distinguished Lecture in Economics, presented by Dr. Peter Orszag. We will also host a cocktail party on Saturday, January 5th--SGE members receive a free drink!

Later in January, Jenny Randall of the Department of Homeland Security will talk about influenza pandemic at the January 17 monthly luncheon. In February, Rakesh Kochar of the Pew Hispanic Center will discuss U.S. immigration policy. Please take a look at the January bulletin for details about both events.

Also, SGE also continues to look for papers and sessions for the 2008 SGE Annual Conference next June. Please see the Call for Papers for more information. This is a great opportunity for government economists to present their work and receive feedback, so please join us this June.

We hope you can join us at many of these exciting events and will get involved in SGE as we continue to grow and provide more opportunities for government economists to meet, mingle and present their work.

See you soon at an SGE event!
