President's Message
May 2008

The SGE Annual Conference is right around the corner! Our conference committee--chaired by Board member Ignez Tristao--has arranged 13 exciting sessions. Topics range from tax policy to health costs to housing to energy prices. We are also pleased and honored to announce that David Walker will be giving this year's Keynote Address and Jason Furman will be giving this year's Luncheon Address. The conference is scheduled for Monday, June 2 at the Bureau of Labor Statistics in DC.

For more information about this year's conference and the preliminary program, please see 2008 SGE Annual Conference and Online Registration page.

We are also pleased to issue our Call for Papers for SGE-sponsored sessions for the 2009 ASSA conference in San Francisco. This is also a great opportunity for government economists to present their work at one of the premier conferences of the year. Please see the conference page for more information and details about submitting your work.

Don't forget the May Monthly Luncheon at the Chinatown Garden Restaurant. This month's luncheon will feature Cynthia Brown, Director of Education Policy at the Center for American Progress on Thursday, May 15th. Click here for more information.

We are also currently holding SGE elections for next year. Board statements are available here. All SGE members may vote in the elections. Votes are due by Friday, May 16, 2008 to Bill Lawhorn at Lawhorn.William@bls.gov. Serving on the SGE board is a great way to meet other economists in the DC area, share your research, and be involved in all of SGE's activities.

We hope you can join us at many of these exciting events and will be able to join us at the Annual Conference this June.

See you soon at an SGE event!
