President’s Message
Has it already been a year? I guess it has since this is my last President's Message. I wish to make a general thanks to everyone who helped on the conference, presented at AEA, our conference, or at one of our morning and evening seminars.
I would like to thank Thornton Matheson, our past president for all of her help and support in the past year. The SGE conference was successful because of all of her hard work.
The votes are in, and no surprise canidates won. I hope Jonathan has a wonderful year as President. I also hope that all of the returning and new board members have a great year. For those board members leaving the board, thank you for your help and I hope that your plans all succeed.
The next ASSA/AEA conference is in New Orleans. I bet the weather there will be much nicer than it was in Chicago this year, but not as nice as the weather we are going to enjoy here in DC very soon. Don't miss an opportunity to present your research. Here is the 2008 SGE call for sessions in New Orleans.
Here is a review of The Rise of Spanish Multinationals: European Business in the Global Economy by Mauro F. Guillén.
Our May luncheon featured Steven Camarota, Director of Research for the Center for Immigration Studies. The report will be here.
Our lunch with NEC is Thursday June 21, 2007. Douglas Elemdorf, Brookings Institution will be talking about "The Evolution of Earnings and Income Volatility." Karen Dynan (Federal Reserve) and Dan Sichel ( Federal Reserve) contributed to this paper.
It is time for the SGE annual dinner Monday, June 18th at 6:30 PM. It will be held at Rosa Mexicano in Gallery Place. http://www.rosamexicano.info/. Please send me your reservation by Friday June 15th. There will not be a set menu, we will order off the menu.
June 28th we have an evening seminar. Here is the information.
Here are a few job listings that may be of interest.
In other events there is an event at John's Hopkins. Sorry for the late notice if you haven't seen it already.
Thank you to everyone who renewed in May. Please take the time to renew if you haven't already. I want to thank everyone for their patience as we move to a direct annual membership. As the system is finalized, you will receive a notice related to your membership expiration the month you expire and two additional months. We are studying ways to improve the process and don't want to make a false start. Eventually this message may even change.
See you soon at an SGE Event.
Bill Lawhorn
President SGE
