President’s Message
Welcome to another year with a new SGE board. I am very happy to be serving as the SGE President and am looking forward to a successful year.
There are a number of goals before us as an organization: continuing our successful Monthly Luncheon and Evening Seminar programs; providing monthly book reviews by SGE members; promoting seven SGE-sponsored sessions at the next ASSA meetings in New Orleans; and planning our next SGE Conference in the Spring of 2008. Additionally, we hope to increase SGE membership over the next year by bringing in economists from all areas of government work—federal, state (and District) and local. We are also excited about beginning a monthly Happy Hour for those looking for a little relaxation at the end of the day. Please feel free to contact me with your ideas on any of these items.
I would like to thank Bill Lawhorn for his terrific work as President last year. I would also like to send congratulations to Seth Giertz and Yvon Pho who announced their engagement a few weeks ago: the first SGE marriage!
As the new board kicks off, we’d like to invite you to our next Monthly Luncheon with Len Burman of the Urban Institute and Tax Policy Center of July 19. We will not be holding events in August, but we look forward to a full year of events and speakers beginning in September.
See you soon at an SGE event!
Jonathan Schwabish
SGE President
