With career interests in international economics
and the economics of developing countries, Mr. Bronstein is senior international
economist at the U.S. Small Business Administration (http://www.sba.gov). He has primarily been involved with SBA’s international
trade and development effort with emerging market economies and has worked
with countries such as Russia, Egypt, and South Africa.
In this capacity he has also helped promote SBA’s efforts
with the international affairs agencies of the U.S. government including
the State and Commerce Departments and Agency for International Development. Professionally active, he is past president of the
Society of Government Economists (http://www.sge-econ.org),
a private professional organization concerned with the applicability of economics
to public policy.
Mr. Bronstein spent most of the 1990’s at
the Agency for International Development (http://www.usaid.gov) where he focused
primarily on Africa and Eastern Europe. He has
advised many developing countries on economic reform and also worked closely
with the World Bank, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development,
International Monetary Fund and foreign governments.
He completed AID’s Development Studies Program (with honors)
and achieved an advanced language rating in French from both the Foreign
Service Institute and Eurocentre in France.
Previously Mr. Bronstein worked in the fields
of industrial organization and antitrust, most notably on the trial staff
of the AT & T case. He completed his graduate
studies in economics at Boston University, where he also taught, and has undergraduate
degrees in political science and economics. A
native of Providence, RI he lives in the Washington area with his wife, a
secondary school teacher, and three sons. His
hobbies are playing trumpet in jazz bands, tennis and skiing.
